Splintered Blog 16: Of endings and beginnings...

As easy to fork as this knife in the road

Every beginning has an ending. And sometimes but not always a middle.

Drawing a line in the sand does not prohibit someone from seeing what lies on the other side. Unless you erect some form of obstacle, like a wall or giant wedge of cheese.

Life is sometimes transcendental. Right up to the point where it isn’t.

All salient revelations, I’m sure you’ll agree. But they’re merely a segue. To what exactly? A future version of myself will have to decide. Well, a decision of sorts has occurred. Possibly involving a catalyst, which would help to engender the core theme of this current rambling screed.

Prior installments featured in this space have been devoted to wacky writing experiments—attempts to see what happens when you push a bunch of disjointed words together and weave them loosely through a (sometimes vague or threadbare) thematic framework. In the process several pieces of writing that can best be described as obtuse were coughed up. These pieces tended to be awkwardly worded and close to unreadable. But that was merely a byproduct of the general thrust. Cataclysms were encouraged to be thoroughfares.

And if that last point doesn’t make any sense you begin to understand what my brain goes through on a daily basis.

Endings are illusions anyway. (Not a pithy observation, just a statement of fact.) Something familiar or long-term stops. It “ends”. But really it’s just a transition into something different. When you think about it that’s the only option. Even worms feeding on rotten flesh are a transition.

      But I digress.

What am I doing? Where am I going? (A damn good question.) Are the ghosts of subtlety haunting their irate muses while locked in the lightless dungeon of my most ephemeral transgressions? Sure, could be.

While extruding erratic prose is often cathartic, if not laughingly self-indulgent, it has its limitations. So I’ll be putting an end to that, for now anyway. The future is, after all, the future; an amorphous nothing or a predetermined framework. You choose. Either way, time isn’t sitting around waiting for the thermodynamic arrow to reverse and it especially isn’t bound to any unsubstantiated expectations. I know, as if.

Heeding all that, the next phase of Splintered Blogs (Phase 2 I guess) will be more direct in its intents, covering literal topics, rather than figurative ones dressed in a cloak of bullshit. The writing may still be a little indulgent but not to the point of absurdity. And, you know, more untethered narratives may show up from time to time, just to keep things putrid. A lot will come down to a matter of inspiration and/or impetuousness.

Along with the change in tone will be a subsequent shift in the cover images, which have been photographic art pieces, often utilizing food items in ways that render them inedible. These pieces will continue to be created as side projects, or lessons in tragically bad taste.

     That’s it, another ending.

Well, almost. Up next will be a commentary on the difference between child-like adults and grown children, followed by similar essays on external validation, toxin abuse, false narratives, the nature of decay and more! Fun topics presented funly, yes and with just a touch of world weariness mixed with “subtle” cynicism. I can hardly wait!

     Okay, now it’s over.

     Until next time.

     Dammit.
